Birdies Indoor Golf & Bar is a family-owned simulator lounge on North Lapeer Road in Oxford, about 40 minutes north of Detroit. It is a walk-in golf bar rather than a coaching studio, with six Full Swing simulator bays, a full open bar, and a clubhouse feel. The room is meant for everyone, from first-timers and kids with their families to regulars who play every week.
Each of the six bays is a 15-by-17-foot hitting area with a large screen at the back. The simulators run Full Swing’s dual-tracking system, which shows the curve of the ball in flight. There is also an interactive practice range, high-speed camera swing analysis, and 13 multi-sport games: hockey shots, baseball, football targets, soccer penalty kicks and zombie dodgeball among them. Birdies suggests no more than four players to a bay, and a foursome should allow about four hours for a full 18 holes.
You book online in one-hour blocks and pay when you arrive. The booking page shows all six simulators, so you can switch bays if your first choice is taken. Show up about ten minutes early, because Birdies holds a tee time for 15 minutes before releasing it to someone else. Hourly rates are on the booking page, and gift certificates cover simulator play. Summer hours are Wednesday and Thursday 3pm to 9pm and Friday and Saturday 3pm to 10pm. It is closed Sunday through Tuesday, that schedule is current, and hours shift with the season, so check the venue’s hours page before a weekday trip.
The bar is a full open bar with sandwiches and snacks. There is a restaurant, free Wi-Fi, and free lot and street parking. Golf shoes are fine as long as they have soft spikes, and house rules ask for family-friendly language because kids are often in the room.
Leagues are run by the customers themselves, with teams of two playing nine-hole scramble matches head to head on a different course each week. The fall session runs ten weeks and the winter session at least twelve, at $25 per person per week, with a cap of 18 teams. Birthday parties, corporate outings and private events go through an event request form on the site. Rates change, so confirm current pricing with the venue before you go.
Birdies suits groups that want a relaxed round with a drink in hand more than a serious practice session. As of this writing it holds a 4.7 rating from 99 Google reviews. It is good for kids, with a wheelchair accessible entrance, parking lot and restroom.
