Optimal Performance Golf, or OPG, is a 12,000-square-foot indoor golf center on 93rd Avenue North in Maple Grove, in the northwest Minneapolis suburbs. It is a hybrid, part practice and coaching facility and part social spot, with eight simulator bays, a 2,700-square-foot chipping and putting green, a fitness area, a conference room, and a bar and restaurant under one roof. The goal is year-round golf for beginners and serious players alike.
The eight bays are the core of the winter business, and the short-game green lets you work on chipping and putting off a real surface instead of a mat. For fittings OPG uses the Foresight GCQuad Max, a four-camera launch monitor that reads spin, launch, face and path for everything from driver to putter. Fittings run 60 minutes for woods, irons, wedges or putter and 120 minutes for a full bag. The fee is $100, or $200 for a full bag, and it is waived if you buy clubs. Regripping runs $7.99 to $14 per grip plus a $4 installation fee. Loft-and-lie adjustments are $4 per club. Rates change, so confirm current pricing with the venue before you go.
One thing to know before you drive out: OPG closes its simulator and short-game rental from May 1 through September 30. Lessons continue through the summer, and club fittings move outdoors to Rush Creek Golf Club during that window. Bay time reopens in October, and Bay rental rates come with the booking, so book through the site or call (763) 465-3674 for current pricing.
Hours are 8am to 11pm every day. Given the seasonal closure of the bays, treat those as building hours and confirm what is open on the day you plan to visit.
The bar and restaurant serve food, beer and wine, and There is free Wi-Fi and it is good for kids. It is set up so you can eat and drink while you practice.
Coaching and programs run deep. Outdoor private lessons are $125 for an adult hour and $95 for a junior hour. Nine- and 18-hole playing lessons are $225 and $400, and small-group rates run $35 to $150 per player. Junior camps run June through August. An accelerated junior program for competitive players is $200 a month for one class a week or $350 for all classes, and campers get discounted practice bay time at $10 an hour solo or $20 for two or more. Leagues run in the fall and winter at $250 to $400 per player, which covers event fees and weekly simulator time, with optional cash skins. A monthly couples’ night on the first Friday is $85 a couple, and OPG also hosts private parties, corporate events and charity events. Rates change, so confirm current pricing with the venue before you go.
OPG fits the golfer who wants coaching, fitting and a comfortable place to practice more than a night-out crowd, though the bar and restaurant handle both. As of this writing it holds a 4.9 rating from 82 Google reviews. The entrance, parking and restroom are wheelchair accessible.
