in the last weekOverall, we enjoyed our stay at the resort, and there were some highlights, but unfortunately several issues affected our experience and left us feeling that the stay wasn’t quite worth the premium price.When we arrived, we were surprised to find extensive renovation work taking place. The main entrance was largely blocked off, there was scaffolding everywhere, and loud drilling throughout the day. We had not been made aware before our stay that any building work would be happening, which was disappointing and something I feel guests should absolutely be informed about in advance.Check-in was also more stressful than it needed to be. The receptionist attempted to charge us the full cost of our stay again because the system wasn’t showing that we had already paid through British Airways. I wasn’t told what I was being asked to insert my card for and initially assumed it was simply for incidentals. Thankfully, after some time, a manager came over and was able to resolve the issue.We were then charged approximately $56 in tax per night, as well as $30 per night for parking. These additional costs quickly add up. Parking itself wasn’t particularly convenient either, as we often had to use Lot 4, which was a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.Our room was lovely, but unfortunately we were unable to enjoy the balcony at all because of the noise and visual disruption from the construction work. I raised this with the hotel and we were given a $300 room credit. While the gesture was appreciated, considering the extent of the disruption and the fact we hadn’t been warned beforehand, it felt disappointing. The credit essentially covered just one restaurant meal for two adults and two children.There were some very good aspects of our stay. Cibolo Moon was lovely, and we particularly enjoyed the chicken pasta and the pork dish.We also tried the golf suite at the sports bar, which was fun, although we found it very expensive for what it was. A couple of days later we went to Topgolf for two hours and felt that offered much better value.The highlight of the resort for us was definitely the River Bluff Water Experience. The kids absolutely loved it and we had a great time there. However, once again, there are additional charges to be aware of. The loungers closest to the water were $50 per lounger. I don’t mind paying extra for a premium daybed or cabana, but when guests are already paying a $59 daily resort fee, I think providing access to some shaded loungers without another substantial charge would be reasonable, particularly for families with children.Overall, this is a beautiful resort but the unexpected construction work and the sheer number of additional charges took away from the experience. I would expect better communication before arrival and more to be included within the already significant resort fee.
