The best golf simulator in downtown Boston

Five Iron Golf at One Washington St, Government Center, is the most-reviewed simulator room in New England, 4.9 from 396 reviews, and it is a two-minute walk from State and Government Center stations. Trackman bays with high-speed swing cameras, more than 200 courses, a bar, leagues, lessons and tournaments. This is the room downtown workers hit after 5pm and visitors find first. Three blocks south, CityGolf Boston at 167 Milk St in the Financial District runs a different model entirely. Membership includes unlimited PGA lessons and unlimited simulator time, which the club itself calls “unlike a conventional golf club.” It also runs a PGA Junior League program and sells home simulators. It rates 4.4 from 23 reviews. For someone in the Financial District who wants to actually improve rather than just play, this is the one.

By TD Garden, the Topgolf Swing Suite at Banners Kitchen & Tap, 82 Causeway St, is a sports-bar simulator setup for pregaming before a Bruins or Celtics night. Its 3.9 rating from 893 reviews covers the whole restaurant, not just the bays.

Where to play golf simulators near Boston: Somerville and the north

Good Time Golf at 470 Revolution Dr in Assembly Row, Somerville, is the closest full simulator lounge to downtown that is not downtown, on the Orange Line and rating 4.9 from 98 reviews. It runs Uneekor simulators with a full bar and memberships. Its leagues include a men’s league, an after-work social league and a scramble league. Its standing deal is the best in the metro: 30 minutes of free golf with every drink bucket.

North on 93, Bay State Golf Club at 2 Lowell St in Wilmington rates 4.9 from 145 reviews and publishes the simplest card in Boston. It is $45 an hour, all day, every day, through the end of September. It runs a free-to-join weekly league and lessons. Flogolf Lounge at 880 Broadway in Saugus runs GOLFZON simulators with food and drink, lessons and leagues, rating 4.9 from 101. Its one-month membership is $350 for two hours a day at off-peak times, with rental clubs included. X-Golf Burlington at 10 Wall St runs seven simulators with a full bar, leagues, $10 club rentals and summer memberships, rating 4.8 from 93.

Further north, Matchplay Golf and Sports Lounge in Andover (4.8 from 77) and The Clubhouse Golf & Entertainment in Middleton (4.4 from 104) are the Merrimack Valley’s bar-and-bays rooms. The Clubhouse charges $50 for cancellations inside 24 hours, so book carefully.

Boston’s cheapest golf simulator is open all night in Franklin

GolfX at 842 Upper Union St in Franklin publishes the lowest rate in the metro. A standard bay on Uneekor QED launch monitors is $20 for a half hour or $40 for an hour. A 1,000-square-foot premium suite is $50 an hour. It is open 24/7 with a separate members’ entrance, and it does club repair. Membership is limited. Bogey’s Indoor Golf at 175 Mansfield Ave in Norton holds a perfect 5.0 across 44 reviews and publishes a winter card. It runs $50 an hour per bay Monday through Thursday and Friday before 4pm, and $60 on weekends, from September through April. It has 90-plus courses, a free membership tier for priority booking, leagues and lessons. Golf Tavern in Cohasset (4.9 from 63) covers the South Shore on Trackman with a menu, a league and a summer pass.

MetroWest: the 495 belt

FORE! Golf Entertainment at 153 Turnpike Rd in Westborough (4.8 from 135) and its sister room Dr. Green’s at 83 Union St in Ashland (4.6 from 129) are MetroWest’s bar-and-bays pair. They share a summer pass, leagues and lessons. Birdie Bar in Waltham (4.7 from 81) is the closest independent to 128 on the west side. The Back Nine Golf runs 24/7 rooms on Full Swing in Maynard (4.9 from 37) and Southborough (5.0 from 28); the company’s own materials say no membership is required to book.

Ten X-Golf franchises ring the metro, from Burlington and Acton to Wayland (4.8 from 75), Hanover, East Walpole, Berlin and Methuen, all with X League nights. GOLFTEC has studios in Waltham (5.0 from 24) and Danvers (4.6 from 23) for measured swing coaching. The published range is wide because the geography is wide. GolfX’s $40 hour in Franklin is the floor; Bay State’s $45 all-day rate and Bogey’s $50 to $60 winter card are typical for the suburbs. Downtown rooms and members clubs quote at booking and price higher on weekend nights. Bays hold four to six players, so even a $60 Saturday bay lands under $15 a person with a full group.
