Swing Social is a sports bar built around golf simulators at 527 Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, downtown San Diego. The venue calls itself an interactive sports bar, and that is the right way to think about it: three Full Swing simulator bays sit inside a lively bar with cocktails, a food menu and a lot of screens.
The three bays run Full Swing simulators with more than 13 virtual sports on top of the golf. That means a group can play a course, then switch to something like soccer or football without leaving the bay. Bays are booked through the Book A Sim page on the venue site. Hours run late for a golf venue. Google lists Monday to Thursday 3pm to midnight, Friday 3pm to 2am, Saturday 10am to 2am, and Sunday 10am to midnight. That makes it one of the few places in San Diego where you can hit balls after 11 at night.
Food and drink are a real part of the visit. The venue describes handcrafted fare and cocktails, and Google lists beer, wine, cocktails, hard liquor, happy hour food and drinks, and food served at the bar. Google also lists outdoor seating, trivia night, live performances and table service, and shows a typical spend of $20 to $30 a person on top of bay time.
Swing Social pushes private events. The site offers custom menus for parties, work outings and celebrations of any size, built around the three bays and the bar. Reservations are accepted, and gift cards are sold on the site.
Practical details: the entrance, restrooms, seating and parking are wheelchair accessible. Parking is a mix of paid lots, paid street parking and some free street parking, which is normal for the Gaslamp. Dogs are allowed. Google rates Swing Social 4.1 from 109 reviews.
